Derrick Lewis
co-founder of CarniCon
I am a professional in the area of marketing, advertising and event production. I lead creative project teams to deliver enhanced results, through the use of creative process mapping and targeted development. I am a lecturer at the UWI Arthur Lok Jack School of Business in the area of marketing, and have spoken at innovation and youth forums in the creative sector. As co-founder of CarniCon – the first of its kind global B2B carnival convention – I have applied my experience in the area of festivals and carnival to create a platform that brings together the best strategic minds in carnival throughout the world. As Creative Director of Eventology TT – a creative agency – I lead a team that brings advertising campaigns to life on behalf of corporate T&T. I have created and produced large scale carnival events as founder of the brand ‘Island People’ that is credited with having pioneered the genre of events commonly referred to as ‘breakfast or jouvert parties’. From these experiences, I'm conscious of the gaps that exist in the creative sector and I understand its potential value proposition to carnival. I look forward to bridging these gaps between the traditional and the modern, to ensure each has an opportunity to gain tangible benefits in the digital age.
