Creative Tech Lab
is an open collaboration tool that brings together diverse individuals interested in designing the future of the creative industries.
We want to expose
creative entrepreneurs to
digital technologies
The CTL supports innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems by getting the right people together (such as artists, technologists, entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, influencers and civic leaders) in order to collaborate, experiment, and prototype innovative solutions that solve problems faced by the creative industries and grow creative enterprises.
I.e. creating new, innovative outputs and improving productivity and growth amongst creative entrepreneurs and creative firms.
Stage 1 Planning and Preparation
In this stage, you establish the CTL foundation by exploring themes, selecting bootcamp formats, building a coordination team, mobilizing the ecosystem, securing vendors, and implementing effective communication strategies to ensure a successful launch.
Stage 2 Operations
In Stage 2, practicality takes the lead. The CTL establishes its online presence on www.creativetlab.com, creates a landing page, and readies itself to receive applications, ensuring a seamless operational framework.
Stage 3
This stage focuses on the bootcamp which is a 100-hour bootcamp bridges creatives and developers, catalyzing entrepreneurship, partnerships, ecosystem growth, and innovation exposure.
Stage 4 Post-bootcamp Activities - Incubation
During the concluding phase, you must select a pivotal strategic institution incubator for CTL 2.0, which can leverage sector expertise, foster startup growth, facilitate connections, and provide customized support to ensure lasting impact and development.

Outcomes at a glance
Creative Tech Lab Jamaica
This was the first CTL that the IDB’s Competitiveness, Technology, and Innovation Division (CTI) piloted and involved 45 competitively selected persons (25 male and 20 female) from Bahamas, Jamaica, Suriname, and Guyana.
For the first time in the Caribbean, developers (i.e., coders and web designers) teamed up with creative artists (in this case, musicians) to partake in an engaging four-session design sprint aimed at addressing musicians’ compensation and monetization of intellectual property. The prototypes created and tested by the teams included the following:
- Team Green – Know your Splits: The Team Green prototyped a mobile application designed to help collaborators easily manage the setup of new song splits.
- Team Red – Notification Experience: Team Red focused on an application that coordinates the agree/dispute process around song splits.
- Team Yellow – Airplay Dashboard: Team Yellow prototyped an application that would allow artists to keep track of the performance of their songs based on airplay data.
Creative Tech Lab Haiti
It involved approximately 100 hours of online information sessions (regarding design thinking, data science, augmented reality, among others) and prototype building days. It included partners such as Facebook, Google, local Government, and the American Chamber of Commerce (which financed a 3-month incubation for the 4 finalist teams). Following 227 applications, 30 finalists were selected and four prototypes built (check out the virtual pitch and closing event here). The prototypes created and tested by the teams included the following:
- VILAJ: A virtual space where creators can co-create on the blockchain. Find out more here.
- AUTODIDACTE: An online education platform using 3D modeling.
- SPEKTAK: A cinematographic and event platform for streaming in subscription video on demand that produces and broadcasts (blockchain application). Find out more here.
- TOLO NETWORK: An online gaming education platform for kids.
Check out this video about the CTL Haiti. More details on its launch available here.
Creative Tech Lab Trinidad and Tobago
This CTL aimed to connect creatives and developers and stimulate innovation and creativity that would lead to the co-creation of innovative online carnival experiences that support the digital economy of Trinidad and Tobago. It included partners such as LoopTT, Facebook, and Cariri’s Idea Advisory Services (IAS) program, and it was led by Cariri and the IDB Lab. The prototypes created and tested by the teams included the following:
- cARnival: An augmented reality experience and mobile crypto wallet. It puts Trinidad and Tobago’s carnival culture in the global cybereconomy dubbed the “metaverse” while providing employment opportunities and creative ways to bring foreign exchange.
- Capture Carnival: A one-stop-shop to capture carnival experiences, rewards, and user insights through a mobile app.
- Artist-ID: An app and platform for promoting events and for connecting artist, promoters, fans, sponsors and anyone in the carnival ecosystem.
Check out the quick Artist-ID Walkthough for CTL Pitch here and visit the platform here. - TTPhoenix Carnival: A VR application for experiencing carnival in the virtual realm.

Creative Tech Lab Jamaica and Honduras
The fourth edition of the Creative Tech Lab (CTL) was an opportunity for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to further test its now 4-year old bootcamp for creatives and developers implemented by Banj. This new edition was implemented simultaneously in two countries and in 2 different languages and turned out to be another success. CTL Honduras and Jamaica was a testament that the pilot that was created in 2019, grew into a digital bootcamp during COVID-19, had become a scalable tool to support Creatives and Developers from our region in finding viable ways to leverage technology to play a more integrated role in transforming the future of the creative industries while generating revenues from creative talent.
CTL Honduras and Jamaica took a significant leap forward by engaging a diverse group of 22 participants, consisting of 60% men and 40% women. A result orchestrated in collaboration with esteemed partners, including the Technological University of Honduras (UTH Avanza) and the Kingston Creative Hub, a dynamic co-working space for artists in Kingston, Jamaica.
That CTL brought together 7 developers and 15 creatives who went through more than 70 hours of intensive training on the creative ecosystem, copyright, cryptocurrency, and marketing strategy culminating into the presentation of 5 projects:
- Innersight which uses a web portal to collect qualitative text and voice data using transcribers for testimonials about creative arts programs to feed a dashboard that displays social impact metrics.
- Eventide™ an innovative software solution that is revolutionizing graphic design and event marketing. It offers intelligent templates, AI-driven design insights, cost estimation, collaboration tools, automated marketing, and performance analytics.
- MIA proposes a project to transform cities into smarter, more connected places, focusing on three main pillars: active citizen participation, smart parking and urban planning.
- Honduras en Bits unifying art and nature, this platform leverages blockchain technology to collect NFTs representing Honduras' natural beauty and cultural richness, enabling collectors to support local artists and environmental initiatives.
- Arkist, a global digital platform committed to safeguarding copyrights and securing investments for artistic work owners through innovative, secure technologies, compliance with international standards, and a dedicated marketplace for protected exchanges.
